Sara Reece comes from a family of linear-thinking Midwesterners, so, when Sara went to college, she was told that she needed a marketable skill. She graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Horticulture and wound up working for a seed corn company in Iowa as a cell biologist in their biotechnology division. As interesting as that was, the art of being able to grow an entire corn plant from a single cell was much more interesting to her than the science of it. After the birth of her second child, she decided to stay at home for a few years while her husband’s career kept the family in re-location mode. During that time, Sara listened to the artist inside of her and started painting walls and taking classes at a theological school. | It is her passion to help people beautify and upgrade their environments, whether at home or at work. It is her belief that artistically designed walls and cabinetry reveal depth and dimension, changing a living environment into an experience. Upon arriving in Tallahassee, Florida in 1996, the time was right to synthesize all of her life’s experiences into the career she was meant to have. Her laboratory background gave her an appreciation for technical detail and precision; her time in seminary and at home gave her the gift of turning introspection into action. Sara continues to study the art of faux finishing under master artisans throughout the United States, including Master Faux Artisan Martin Alan Hirsch of Decorative Finishes Studio's Faux Finishing School and Melanie Royals of Royal Design Studio. In 2006 Sara was one of ten students selected to assist Martin Alan Hirsch in the commercial renovation of Nio’s restaurant in Louisville, Kentucky. Their work was featured in the winter 2006 issue of Faux Effects World. Sara often participates in the annual Tallahassee Parade of Homes and is a member of the Stencil Artisans League International. |
